FAQ

Questions I get asked a lot ::

Q: What does a session cost?
A: Mini sessions are $275 and include the print rights to 10 full resolution, edited digital images. Full sessions are $525 and include print rights to all full resolution, edited digital images (approximately 50-100). Prints start at $7. Weddings start at $1500. Contact amymelsaphoto@gmail.com for details.

Q: Where do we go for the session?
A: The location depends on the style and vision you have for the session. Sessions can take place either on location, or in your own home, utilizing natural light. In either location my goal is for you to be completely relaxed and comfortable. That relaxed atmosphere is key to getting great images. If you need help picking out a location I can give you suggestions, just let me know!

Q: Do you travel outside of Austin for sessions?
A: Yes! I do often travel for sessions outside of the Austin area. There are additional travel costs for sessions to take place outside of the local area and sessions are subject to availability: A travel fee outside of 20 miles from 78736 will be assessed to cover my costs.

Q: What do I need to know about my family shoot?
A: As you may have noticed, I have a very casual style of photography. I often tell my clients "Go have fun and pretend I'm not even here!" I'm not looking for you to sit smiling, legs crossed, head tilted, poised for camera. I'm looking to capture those intimate moments you experience every day as a family.

Q: How long will the session last?
A: Taking natural, un-posed pictures takes time. You need time to connect with me so you feel at ease during the shoot. A typical session will last an hour to an hour and a half and produce at least 50 professionally retouched and color corrected photos. If there's a small child involved we may keep it short and sweet!

Q: What do you recommend we wear?
A: Nothing is worse than messing or stressing over clothes during a fun photoshoot, so make sure and be comfortable. Especially young children. Look for coordinating and contrasting items, mix texture and color, and check out Pinterest! Here are some boards I created for inspiration: Style board-famly, Style board - seniors, Style board - children. Select a complimentary color palette, and for each member of your family to wear what represents their personal style. The important thing for sessions involving multiple subjects is coordinating, not matching, your clothes.

Q: When is the best time to book a maternity session?
A: Maternity sessions are best photographed around 32 to 36 weeks!

Q: Do you offer mini sessions?
A: Yes, I offer mini sessions 2 times a year, the spring and fall! These are a great option for holiday cards, having family in town, replacement for the boring school picture, etc. My fall minis book up months in advance, so if you want a spot book as soon as dates are posted.

Q: How do I secure a session and how far in advance?
A: I recommend booking your session approximately 2-4 weeks in advance. If you are wanting a photo session in the fall I suggest booking by August. A deposit of half your session cost will secure you a spot on my calendar. This is non-refundable but transferable in the event of bad weather or unforeseen cancellation by you. The remaining balance is due on the day of the session.

Q: Do you accept credit cards?
A: Yes, via Paypal, Square or Venmo.

Q: What can I do to prepare my child for the photo shoot?
A: I ask that your children be well rested, fed and in good spirits. Please feel free to bring a favorite toy or music to the session to help them relax. If your child is not feeling well I advise that you reschedule so that we can capture your child at their best. I also prefer that only the parents come to the shoot as to not have too many distractions; distractions can limit the success of the session.

Q: What happens after the shoot?
A: Approximately 2 weeks after your session at least 50 digital images will be available for proofing.

Q: Do you do touch up's for blemishes?
A: Yes. Minor imperfections and blemishes are part of my regular editing process. If you would like any additional editing (swapping heads, changing colors, etc) there is an additional fee of approximately $25, depending on extent/time of edit.

Q: Will any of the images come in B&W?
A: If I feel like the image would look better as a b&w I will convert it, otherwise it will stay color.  If you have a preference, please let me know!

Q: Do the digitals come on a disc?
A: Because some of the newer computers are doing away with disc drives, I am too. Approximately 2 weeks after your order you'll receive an email link to download your images straight to your computer.

Q: Do you archive session images?
A: Your session will be archived for 1 year. I recommend once you have downloaded your digital images to back them up twice. After 14 days your link will expire. If you need me to re-upload, there is a $25 fee.
