I was always the girl with a camera in my hand ever since I was little. In 2007 my passion became my occupation. In 2009 it turned into full time.

· Mother of 5. (4 I gave birth to and 1 we claim as our own ;)
· Married 21 years and counting
· Born in Kansas City, but lived in Austin since 3rd grade

What I love: Jesus, reading, organizing, altruism, school supplies, gardening, purses, thrift shopping, traveling, and pajamas.

What am I inspired by?l
laughter, hands, shoes, imperfections, light, color, emotions, natural beauty, realness.

My photography mission statement:
To raise awareness of not only the needs in this world, but also the love, struggles, and transparency of this beautiful, messy life.  In every session, I strive to capture genuine character and personalities. I work hard to fill every session with laughter and ease. You can leave your stress at home. If you prefer artificial lighting with a forest backdrop, please keep on looking. My passion is to capture real people in real moments, in all their beauty, honesty, and love. It is my honor and privilege to photograph the lovely images of your today, knowing they will be gone tomorrow.

Session Rates:

Here's the deal...after years of running my photography business I have learned that 99% of my clients don't want to:

  • scroll through hundreds of proofs picking out their favorites (way too time consuming),
  • be pressured into purchasing prints ending up spending more than they can afford, and
  • have a deadline to order which rushes them into figuring out which image they want in what size on what wall, oh and they have to figure out if they want a framed print, gallery canvas wrap, metal print, etc.

I came up with 2 packages that are a great solution!

1. My basic session fee is $450 and includes pre-session phone consulting, a custom on-location session, at least 40 fully edited high-resolution digital files, and a print release. Newborn session is $550

2. My full session fee is $750 and includes pre-session phone consulting, a custom on-location session, at least 40 fully edited high-resolution digital files, a print release, a 5x7 lustre coated print of each photo from your session and a custom flash drive.

A 50% non-refundable deposit is due upon booking and is used to secure your date. The remaining 50% is due at the time of your session. If you need to reschedule, the deposit is transferable to the new date we agree upon.

Weddings: I take a select few weddings each year! My wedding price is $1750 for 4 hours, including a second shooter and all full resolution, edited digital images. Each additional hour after is $150. Please contact me for more information!

Frequently Asked Questions ::

Q: Where do we go for the session?
A: The location depends on the style and vision you have for the session. Sessions can take place either on location, or in your own home, utilizing natural light. In either location my goal is for you to be completely relaxed and comfortable. That relaxed atmosphere is key to getting great images.

Q: Do you travel outside of Austin for sessions?
A: Yes! I do often travel for sessions outside of the Austin area. There are additional travel costs for sessions to take place outside of the local area and sessions are subject to availability: A travel fee outside of 20 miles from 78736 will be assessed to cover my costs.

Q: What do I need to know about my family shoot?
A: As you may have noticed, I have a very casual style of photography. I often tell my clients "Go have fun and pretend I'm not even here!" I'm not looking for you to sit smiling, legs crossed, head tilted, poised for camera. I'm looking to capture those intimate moments you experience every day as a family.

Q: How long will the session last?
A: Taking natural, un-posed pictures takes time. You need time to connect with me so you feel at ease during the shoot. A typical session will last an hour to an hour and a half and produce at least 40 professionally retouched and color corrected photos. If there's a small child involved we may keep it short and sweet!

Q: What do you recommend we wear?
A: Nothing is worse than messing or stressing over clothes during a fun photoshoot, so make sure and be comfortable. Especially young children. Look for coordinating and contrasting items, mix texture and color, and check out
Pinterest! Here are some boards I created for inspiration: Style board-famly, Style board - seniors, Style board - children. Select a complimentary color pallette, and for each member of your family to wear what represents their personal style. The important thing for sessions involving multiple subjects is coordinating, not matching, your clothes.

Q: When is the best time to book a maternity session?
A: Maternity sessions are best photographed around 32 to 36 weeks!

Q: Do you offer mini sessions?
A: Yes, I offer mini sessions a few times a year, usually in spring, summer and fall! Minis usually last 30 minutes per family and include about 8-10 images. Mini clients receive the same client copyright and same digital download link as full session clients. These are a great option for holiday cards, having family in town, replacement for the boring school picture, etc.

Q: How do I secure a session and how far in advance?
A: I recommend booking your session approximately 2-4 weeks in advance. If you are wanting a photo session in the fall I suggest booking by August. A deposit of half your session cost will secure you a spot on my calendar. This is non-refundable but transferable in the event of bad weather or unforeseen cancellation by you. The remaining balance is due on the day of the session.

Q: Do you accept credit cards?
A: Yes, via Paypal, Square or Venmo.

Q: What can I do to prepare my child for the photo shoot?
A: I ask that your children be well rested, fed and in good spirits. Please feel free to bring a favorite toy or music to the session to help them relax. If your child is not feeling well I advise that you reschedule so that we can capture your child at their best. I also prefer that only the parents come to the shoot as to not have too many distractions; distractions can limit the success of the session.

Q: What happens after the shoot?
A: Approximately 2 weeks after your session at least 40 digital images will be available for download via a secure link, emailed to you.

Q: Do you do touch up's for blemishes?
A: Yes. Minor imperfections and blemishes are part of my regular editing process. If you would like any additional editing (swapping heads, changing colors, etc) there is an additional fee of approximately $25, depending on extent/time of edit.

Q: Will any of the images come in B&W?
A: If I feel like the image would look better as a b&w I will convert it, otherwise it will stay color.  If you have a preference, please let me know!

Q: Do the digitals come on a disc?
A: Because some of the newer computers are doing away with disc drives, I am too. If you go with my basic package you'll receive an email link to download your images straight to your computer. If you go with the full package you'll get a custom flash drive with your digitals on it.

Q: Where should I print my images?
A: I recommend printing through Mpix.com. You are investing in your photography session, so please don't go to Walgreens. You will receive the personal print copyright for all photos which allows for printing and sharing online. However, you may not sell them or use them to market a product of your own. In turn you agree that your images may be used to market Amy Melsa Photography.

Q: Do you archive session images?
A: Your session will be archived for 1 year. I recommend once you have downloaded your digital images to back them up twice. After 30 days your link will expire. If you need me to reupload, there is a $25 fee.
